Sebastian Kopijka ordianed as permananet deacon.  On Sunday (26th) afternoon in Carlow Cathedral Bishop Nulty ordained five new permanent deacons for service in our diocese.  It is a great honour for our parish that Sebastian Kopijka, Bay View is one of those five.  On this very special occasion we the laity, religious and priests of Mountmellick Parish offer our heartiest congratulation to Sebastian, his wife Gosia and sons Macek and Timak as we celebrate Sebastian’s ordination with them.  The areas of ministry which may be entrusted to permanent deacons fall under three general headings: Altar, Word and Charity.  Permanent deacons can celebrate Baptisms, Marriages and preside at Funerals; proclaim the Gospel and peach the homily at mass, visit the sick and bereaved and promote awareness of the social teaching of the Church.
